Class II Treatment Using Smartee GS for Mandibular Repositioning

Thu 10 Apr | 17:00 - 17:30

Traditionally, the treatment of Class II malocclusions in adults with aligners has been managed through sequential distalization, with or without the help of mini-screws, depending on the amount of distalization required, or by performing extractions. These methods allowed for Class II correction. But what happens in cases where Class II malocclusions have a mandibular etiology?

These malocclusions typically present with increased overjet, deep overbite, and a pronounced curve of Spee. In such situations, proper treatment often required decompensation followed by orthognathic surgery.

With Smartee GS, mandibular repositioning can be achieved in both young and adult patients using the S8-SGTB and S8-SGHB devices, which help differentiate between physiological and pathological mandibular retrusions. This approach allows for Class II correction, reduction of overbite and increased overjet, and the correction of the curve of Spee. Additionally, it enables the proper repositioning of the condyle-fossa relationship, promoting neoformation of condylar tissue, which helps maintain long-term stability of the newly achieved position.
